MMDC Competition Winners Aim to Improve Medical District Efficiency

MedHaul and Sparco Projectpedia were the winning ideas from the recent Memphis Medical District Collaborative (MMDC) Operation Opportunity business plan competition, and the entrepreneurs behind the concepts will now work with EPIcenter to cultivate them into successful ventures.

The MMDC, U3 Advisors, and EPIcenter partnered on the competition; participating medical district institutions include St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital/ALSAC, Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, Regional One Health, University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Baptist College of Health Sciences, Southern College of Optometry and Memphis Bioworks Foundation.

U3 Advisors (U3A) was hired by the District’s anchor institutions in summer 2014 to design and implement an anchor strategy in the area in an effort to focus its economic resources for the benefit of the entire district.  U3A continues to support the MMDC with the implementation of the various elements of the anchor strategy. U3A has designed and implemented similar anchor strategies in Philadelphia and Midtown Detroit.
