Janne Corneil

As design partner, campus planner and urban designer at U3, Janne brings creativity design and integrated thinking to the complex campus and urban challenges.

Janne’s campus and urban design practice works with cities, universities, and developers on placemaking, master plans and development strategy. Her broad range of experience working with public, institutional, community, and private clients strengthens her ability to navigate the cultural differences between universities, cities, and private stakeholders. As U3’s “in house” urban design and campus planning expert, she has brought many of its anchor-driven strategies to life. Janne creates design strategies that unlock institutional demand and latent real estate value, incorporate high degrees of participation from partner entities, imagine sensitive neighborhood-facing interventions, and craft discerning urban design approaches that marry dynamic user and visitor experience with market opportunities.

As a seasoned urban design and campus planning practitioner, Janne brings a level of design excellence and planning rigor to her work at all scales across U3’s work. Her recent projects include public realm planning & implementation at Tulane University’s downtown campus, campus/downtown integration for the University of Pittsburgh, vision, and strategy for a variety of edge districts at the University of Maryland, innovation district planning and program strategy for the University of Calgary and the University of California, Davis, and urban design frameworks for many university developer solicitation efforts.

Janne holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Toronto, and a Master of Urban Design in Architecture from Harvard University, where she graduated with Distinction and received the Druker Traveling Fellowship to pursue her research on network economies in Italy and Taiwan. Janne speaks frequently on the topics of the changing roles of institutions in cities. After serving as vice-chair for five years, Janne remains active in the University Development and Innovation Council at the Urban Land Institute.
