Sophia Chang

Storytelling Manager for Reimagining the Civic Commons

Sophia Chang is a multimedia journalist who specializes in discovering overlooked voices and places, telling their stories in ways that change, connect, and shape communities.

Sophia is a print, digital, and audio journalist with two decades of experience covering public health, education, environmental justice, and government accountability. Prior to joining the team at Reimagining the Civic Commons, Sophia reported for New York Public Radio, where she covered NYC’s response to COVID-19 among other comprehensive investigative work. During her time with Newsday, Sophia reported on critical issues including government accountability, climate change, and criminal justice, launching and helming the publication’s digital breaking news desk. She was part of a team that examined safety issues at the Long Island Rail Road, leading to critical improvements and a finalist nod for the Pulitzer Prize.

She holds a Master’s in Journalism from Columbia University and Bachelor’s degrees from the University of Texas at Austin.
