Rice University

Beginning in 2013, U3 Advisors served as real estate advisor to Rice University in connection with the BioScience Research Collaborative building, a 500,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art research facility for scientists and educators from Rice and other institutions.  Rice’s vision for the BRC is to serve as an interdisciplinary, inter‐institutional catalyst of a bioscience “ecosystem,” bringing academia and industry together to drive cutting‐edge research and commercialization.  U3A immersed itself in the BRC project and worked with Rice to evaluate several potential transaction structures. U3A helped Rice to analyze the costs, risks, and benefits of each option, evaluated tradeoffs relative to the financial and non-financial priorities of the institution, and provided strategic recommendations on deal terms.
