New Full-Service Animal Shelter Announced in the Bronx

Working with engineering firm Mott MacDonald and a team of animal shelter experts, U3 Advisors assisted the New York City Department of Health (DOH) and it’s contract operator Animal Care Centers (ACC) in the site selection and predevelopment planning for a new full service animal shelter in the Bronx.

Tasked with siting a new shelter in an optimal location in the Bronx, U3A used GIS analysis to map the multiple elements of the City’s selection criteria; the goal was to find a site that was simultaneously convenient to customers, easily accessible via public transit, located in a suitable zoning district, and located on City-owned property. U3A produced a series of detailed maps to aid the City in evaluating various options through these lenses. The final site selected by the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) is a large parcel located at 2050 Bartow Avenue in Co-Op City.
