MMDC & U3A Launch Live Local and Buy Local Programs in Memphis

U3 Advisors, working with the Memphis Medical District Collaborative, has launched two programs in the Memphis Medical District to attract more employees to the district and target more institutional spend at local businesses: Live Local 901, a housing incentive program for employees of 5 anchor institutions in the Medical District, and; The Operation Opportunity Challenge, a business plan competition to encourage Memphis-based innovators, entrepreneurs, and existing businesses to help solve operational pain points within the supply chains of the institutions, and use the experience to launch, scale, or expand their businesses.

Cornell Outlines Student Housing Plan

U3A Managing Director, Todd Stern, recently presented U3A's initial findings from it's nine-month engagement with the Cornell University's Division of Student and Campus Life to "draw up a master plan to reassess on-campus housing for the next decade" at an on-campus student housing forum.  Read more about U3A's engagement with Cornell's Division of Campus Life here

Medical District Begins Buy Local Program

“This is really a story about what can happen when you think about the collective demands of the institutions in the area.” The Memphis Medical District Collaborative (MMDC) announced a “Buy Local” business plan competition in advance of the October 26th kickoff of the “Operation Opportunity” initiative, which will give incentives to small, locally owned businesses to develop purchasing relationships with the big hospitals and universities in the district. U3A Vice President Alex Feldman, along witth MMDC President Tommy Pacello, were on hand for the announcement.

MCS Opens Upper West Side School

Manhattan Country School (MCS) held the ribbon cutting ceremony for its new school on 150 West 85th Street in New York City. U3A served as project manager for this K-8 independent school for four years, working with MCS to plan and execute a strategy to double enrollment, sell its historic mansion on the Upper East Side, and acquire a new facility on the Upper West Side to support the school’s growth.  Read the latest about MCS' move to the Upper West Side here

Reimagining the Civic Commons

The Reimagining the Civic Commons initiative will invest in five place-based demonstration projects with the potential to catalyze transformative change through the imaginative use of civic assets.  This work is being funded collectively by four national foundations and will take place in Philadelphia, Chicago, Memphis, Detroit, and Akron.  A national learning network under U3 Advisors' leadership will focus on activating innovation in the civic commons in demonstration cities and beyond, understanding the impact of the civic commons and the innovation and collaboration required to achieve that impact, and increasing broad-based support for the civic commons in cities across the country.

Huge new retail and residential complex coming to College Park

The Washington Business Journal reports on the latest developments in the revisioning of College Park, Maryland. The University of Maryland selected the Bozzuto Group and Willard Retail Group, in partnership with the University of Maryland Foundation, to develop a $110 million mixed-use site along U.S. Route 1. Plans for the site include a 300-unit luxury apartment building with more than 100,000 square feet of ground-floor retail on the 4.5-acre site.

11-Story Apartment Building Planned To Replace Harlem Church At 20 West 116th Street

Plans have been filed to develop an 11-story apartment building on the Harlem Baptist Temple Church’s property at 20 West 116th Street in Harlem, NY. The church would return to the site, which was partially demolished in 2009, taking up 5,800 square feet in the cellar and first floors of the new development. Twenty-eight apartments would be stacked on top, spread across 29,540 square feet of residential space. U3 Advisors has served as Harlem Baptist Temple Church's Development Advisor since 2014.
